‘Benarkah engkau Uwais al-Qarni’, tanya Umar. ‘Benar’ Jawab Uwais. ‘Wahai Uwais al-Qarni, 10 tahun yang lalu Rasulullah SAW pernah mengatakan kepada kami, bahwa engkau adalah penghulunya surga, dan kami diperintahkan oleh Rasulullah untuk meminta do’amu wahai al-Qarni’. Maka do’akanlah kami whai Uwais al-Qarni. Tetapi jawaban Uwais al-Qarni sungguh mengejutkan mereka yaitu ‘Aku tak percaya bahwa engkau mengenal Nabi Muhammad SAW’. Terkejut Umar bin Khattab, bagaimana mungkin ia tidak kenal dengan Nabi Muhammad SAW. Selama ini ia berperang dengan Rasulullah, hidup bersama Rasulullah bahkan makan bersama Rasulullah. Maka berdirilah Ali bin Abi Thalib dan berkata kepada Uwais al-Qarni. ‘Wahai Uwais al-Qarni, tahukah engkau siapa aku?. ‘Aku adalah menantunya Rasulullah!. Bagaimana engkau mengatakan bahwa kami tidak kenal dengan Nabi Muhammad SAW’. Akan tetapi Uwais al-Qarni tetap mengatakan ‘Aku pun tidak percaya bahwa engkau kenal dengan Nabi Muhammad SAW’.
